Mythbusting Multiculturalism
Lunch with Professor Andrew Markus
Hosted by:
May 10, 2016 @ 10:30 pm - May 11, 2016 @ 12:00 am
Australia is home to many different cultures. We all bring our own cultural heritage to Victoria’s multicultural society. Our heritage influences how we think and what we believe.
What do we know about the range of views in society and the implications for Australia and Victoria’s future social cohesion?
Professor Markus has been studying society’s views on multiculturalism and in particular social cohesion for many years.
Professor Andrew Markus is the Pratt Foundation Research Professor of Jewish Civilisation at Monash University and is a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia. Andrew heads the Scanlon Foundation social cohesion research program, which in 2015 conducted its eighth national survey, together with some 50 focus groups and, a first in Australian research, an online survey available in 20 languages. He has published extensively in the field of Australian race relations and immigration history.
