Public Safety Challenges

Hosted by:

August 31, 2018 - September 1, 2018

There are a number of external challenges threatening public safety in today’s world, such as acts of extreme violence, organised crime, cyber-crime, public order, and changing demographics. As a policing organisation, Victoria Police must continue to reform its service delivery to ensure it remains dynamic and responsive to these threats. This will best be achieved through the modernisation of our workforce and making use of the wealth of technological solutions available.

Graham Ashton AM commenced his appointment as the 22nd Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police on 1 July 2015. His policing career spans 34 years across Victoria Police, the Australian Federal Police, and a range of other public sector agencies. CCP Ashton was tasked with the operational command of the successful Australian Law Enforcement response to the Bali bombings, known as Operation Alliance, for which he received the Order of Australia.  In addition to his counter-terrorism experience, CCP Ashton also has an extensive background in serious and organised crime.
