If Nines takeover of Fairfax is bad for Australia, watch out for what is next

Hosted by:

August 16, 2018

Members' Dinner with Andrew Jaspan, Professorial Fellow at RMIT University, co-founder of The Conversation and former Editor-in-Chief of The Age and The Sunday Age.

Andrew will lead a conversation on the changing media landscape and the consequences. The recent Fairfax / 9 merger, the constant attacks on the ABC and the change in media ownership laws all potentially imperil the very idea of public interest journalism.

Andrew has more than 30 years' experience at the forefront of digital and print media. He has edited major broadsheet newspapers in the UK and Australia and is the Founder of The Conversation, Australia’s largest independent news and commentary site. Andrew has also held a range of non-executive, consulting and academic roles with organisations including The NZ Herald, Liberation (Paris), RMIT University’s Global Cities Institute, and Senior Research Fellow with the University of Melbourne's Faculty of Engineering.

So where does that leave those seeking access to a plurality of views and to reliable and verified information? Can anything be done, or is it too late? We must have a robust discussion, debate, and discuss corrective measures.
