Wittenoom

A MF Cultural Life Series event

Hosted by:
Pamela Creed

February 11, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

$60.00 – $63.00

Be transported from Victoria’s St Kilda to WA’s Pilbara, a blue asbestos mining town where Dot and Pearl live.

So begin glorious days, when the Pilbara’s stunning landscapes, magnificent wildlife and close-knit community shaped an idyllic lifestyle; wild-natured Dot making the most of every second, while teenaged Pearl tries to make sense of what her own life might be.

Wittenoom follows Dot and Pearl’s personal story, filled with humour, sorrow,  and the friends they make along the way. Butler expertly weaves their journey into the frame of the Wittenoom tragedy, asking questions about accountability in an era where the health and cultural impacts of mining ricochet as heavily in 2022 as they did in 1962.

Wittenoom is being performed at Red Stitch Theatre, a quant theatre that delivers world class contemporary theatre. Arrive early to get an outside table for a pre-event beverage, or take a walk through Alma Park. Once the theatre is over, take a walk down Chapel Street to be spoilt for choice for an early dinner.

Writer Mary Anne Butler
Director Susie Dee
Cast Emily Goddard and Caroline Lee

Wittenoom won the Shane & Cathryn Brennan Prize for Playwriting.
