Signature Dinner with the Hon Robert Redlich AM KC
Hosted by:
Prof Ian Dunn AM
May 3, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
$125.00 – $145The Hon Robert Redlich AM KC has just completed a five year term as the Commissioner of the Independent Broad Based Anti-Corruption Commission (IBAC). We note that his predecessor Stephen O’Bryan also spoke at a MF Dinner.
Before his appointment to IBAC, an appointment made to wide acclaim, Mr Redlich had served for 16 years as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Victoria, the last twelve of which were served on the Court of Appeal. In his previous life as a Barrister, and ultimately KC, Mr Redlich was one of a decreasing cohort, notably a great all rounder. From crime to commercial cases to administrative law matters, Mr Redlich was briefed in all. He was assiduous in preparation of matters and solicitors loved him. He was recognised as a leader of the Bar and served as Chair of the Bar Council.
His term at IBAC featured a number of exposures of improper and illegal behaviour. It also involved examination of a number of politically sensitive matters which attracted considerable attention in the media.
We are now to have a “Federal ICAC.” Mr Redlich’s service in Victoria makes him perhaps better qualified than any to comment on the way forward, whilst discussing under the Chatham House Rule the problems which have arisen at IBAC.
