Immigration in America – what are they doing well!
Hosted by:
March 10, 2016 @ 11:30 pm - March 11, 2016 @ 1:00 am
David Lubell is the founder of Welcoming America and has been executive director since October 2009 and is in Australia for just one week.
An accomplished social entrepreneur, he began his career as an advocacy and organizing director of Latino Memphis. He later founded and became executive director of the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition, where he helped to found Welcoming Tennessee, the model for what is now Welcoming America.
David's award-winning concept has gained recognition nationally and internationally. In 2014, the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and BMW Group named Welcoming America as one of the top five recipients worldwide of the Intercultural Innovation Award, honouring its work in promoting intercultural understanding.
True welcoming means making sure that everyone feels like they belong, both native-born and migrant populations. And when this happens, communities thrive both socially and economically.
The White House has honored Welcoming America and ten of its leaders as White House Welcoming America Champions of Change for their innovations in the area of immigrant integration. Welcoming America partners with the White House for its Building Welcoming Communities Campaign. In addition, the World Economic Forum named David a 2015 Young Global Leader.
In January 2016, The Chronicle of Philanthropy named David to their first-ever 40 Under 40 list of young leaders from across the country who are crafting innovative solutions for tough problems, building the strength of the nonprofit world, and driving change in their communities and around the world.
What can we learn from this 2015 Young Global Leader? Join us for lunch to find out…
