The importance of the TAFE system in the facilitation of microeconomic reform and economic development – Norman Gray AM, Chief Executive Officer of Box Hill Institute (BHI) and Centre for Adult Education (CAE)

"The sector has since been plagued with controversial issues around quality, cost and poor student outcomes. Efforts to address reform of the sector need to recognise that the government owned TAFE sector has a specific and critical role to play which cannot be achieved using market dynamics; failure to recognise and address this role will severely hamper the prospects of economic growth in the state." – Norman Gray AM
Norman is the Chief Executive Officer of Box Hill Institute (BHI) and Centre for Adult Education (CAE) and was appointed to this role in July 2014. He has led the development of the organisation's new strategic plan 2015 to 2018, which has a focus on financial sustainability and serving communities through education, training and lifelong learning.
Norman’s previous roles include Chief Operating Officer of Public Transport Victoria and Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Thales Australia. Prior to this Norman had a long and distinguished career in the Department of Defence. He served in The Royal Australian Air Force, holding several significant leadership positions and rose to the rank of Air Vice Marshal. Norman has also held a number of Board positions, including as a Non-Executive Director of the Royal Flying Doctor Service and a Non-Executive Director of the Institute of Telecommunication Research.
