"Brain research is the new black: everyone wants to know about it" – Professor Geoffrey Donnan is Director of The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health and Professor of Neurology, The University of Melbourne.
Professor Donnan will discuss why today Brain research is the new frontier and of the moment.
Professor Donnan’s major interests are in neuroimaging and clinical trials. He was co-founder of the Australian Stroke Trials Network (ASTN) and Neuroscience Trials Australia (NTA). His major contributions have been in the introduction of new stroke interventions such as clot dissolving agents and clot removing devices. He also made important observations about the survival of brain tissue after stroke and has a major interest in the interface between the basic and clinical sciences in stroke medicine and establishing new standards for the conduct of preclinical research.
Professor Donnan has published over 400 papers in peer reviewed journals, over 60 book chapters, edited four books and has been Lecturer or Visiting Professor in numerous countries. He is Past President of the Stroke Society of Australasia, the Australian Association of Neurologists and the World Stroke Organization.
