Cooling the City – Melbourne’s 4C Challenge
Hosted by:
June 6, 2016 @ 10:30 pm - June 7, 2016 @ 12:00 am
– Members' Lunch with Yvonne Lynch – Team Leader Future Melbourne with the City of Melbourne.
2015 was the hottest year on the planet since record keeping began. Added to this, our cities are getting hotter as they grow due to the urban heat island effect. Melbourne is undergoing a period of rapid growth and is predicted to outgrow Sydney by 2030. But what kind of city will Melbourne be in the future?
Yvonne is one of Australia’s leading urban climate change adaptation strategists. She has worked with City of Melbourne for over eight years. During this time, she has led some of the City’s most innovative environmental initiatives, which have received multiple national and international awards. Her focus areas include urban cooling, ecosystem based adaptation and citizen participation.
Yvonne will talk about the climate challenges Melbourne is contending with, as well as some of the emerging solutions to cooling the city.
This affects each and everyone one of us and is a topic we all need to be better informed about. Be sure to book early as this event will sell out.
