How do we make more of Melbourne?

- Lunch with Roger Poole

Hosted by:

November 4, 2016 @ 11:30 pm - November 5, 2016 @ 1:00 am

Is Melbourne under threat of losing coherence and becoming a bland anonymity!

Roger Poole is a strategic and conceptual architect, committed to an innovative and enduring approach to architecture.

Roger states that ‘Over the next few decades Melbourne’s population will grow to around 8 million by 2060, so we need to plan now to ensure prosperity and development opportunities for the next generations and to preserve a legacy of liveability. The challenge is to identify and develop the key ingredients of Melbourne's liveability to avoid losing coherence and creating mediocre anonymity – which would threaten our city’s distinctive character.

So ask yourselves these two key questions:

– Is Melbourne essentially a mosaic of interconnected ‘villages’ that provide both a sense of place and the opportunity to evolve our identity by shifting to another ‘village’ more aligned with our aspirations?

– Can we understand the parameters and dimensions of today's loosely cohesive communities, and work out how to make many more local communities that provide people with a sense of place, identity and support in their daily lives?

Join us for lunch to learn these answers and more.
