Driverless buses – a new reality for Melbourne?
Members' Lunch with Harry Wijers, Managing Director Transdev Melbourne
Melbourne needs a world-class bus network that puts the customer at the centre, but what will that take and is the driverless bus the answer?
Harry Wijers' career in public transport commenced in 2000, in 2013 he took on the role of General Director of GVU, a public transport operator owned by Transdev in Utrecht. Harry notes that ‘The GVU was 104 years old and we had a lot of drivers who were the fourth generation of their family to work for us. It was a joy to be part of the history of that business.’
Harry came to Melbourne as a Senior Service Planning Manager for Transdev Australasia in 2014, and in October of that year he took on the role of Managing Director with Transdev Melbourne, who operate one third of our city's metropolitan bus network.
Come and meet the man who plans to make his legacy a new reality for Melbourne.
