Turnaround From The Boardroom

Disruption and changing landscapes features high on the strategic responses for boards and CEOs.

“One of the most important things when I’m looking at an opportunity, or a disrupted environment, is to look at the strategy and think about whether or not you have the right business model, servicing customers in a way that they want. If the answer is no, or yes but not in the future, then you obviously need to change your business model. You need to look at your organisational structure and make a decision as to whether or not the structure still services that new business model. A lot of organisations change their thinking. But they don’t change the organisation in a meaningful way so they don’t align their structure and people to the outcome.” (Inside The Boardroom with Marina Go, AICD)

Marina Go AM is an experienced Chair and Non-Executive Director of ASX listed, private and Not for Profit organisations, across a range of sectors including energy, infrastructure, technology, retail and sport. She is a member of UNSW’s Business Advisory Council and ANU’s Centre for Asian-Australian Leadership (CAAL) Advisory Board.

Her board portfolio includes Chair of Adore Beauty and a non-executive director of Transurban, Energy Australia, 7-Eleven, Autosports Group and Netball Australia. She is a national director of Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Marina has 30 years of leadership experience in the media industry and is a former Chair of The Walkley Foundation, Netball Australia, Super Netball Commission, Ovarian Cancer Australia and The Wests Tigers NRL Club. Marina is a co-founder of Women’s Agenda and has been actively progressing equitable outcomes for women and culturally diverse Australians for more than three decades.

She brings a strong customer focus specialising in digital strategy and reputational risk to her board roles. She draws on executive experience culminating in her role as general manager of Hearst-Bauer Media. Prior to this, Ms Go was chief executive officer of Private Media, Australia’s leading independent digital publisher with a portfolio of websites.

Of note is her specialised board experience in leading the transformation and turnaround of companies during periods of disruption. In her role at West Tigers, Ms Go lobbied Federal, State and Local governments for funding for an elite high-performance facility and delivered significant change to the organisation.

Marina was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia in June 2023 for significant service to business governance, to sport administration and to the media industry.

Join us in conversation with Marina Go to learn how transformation can be driven from the boardroom, what is needed for success and lessons learnt.
