The human face of the court system…

Melbourne Stories invite people who have been deeply involved in the life of our city to share and reflect on their journey.

Greg Levine's career as lawyer, and, for many years, a magistrate,  has taken him across some of the most complex and sensitive issues Melbourne faces, including juvenile offenders, substance abuse, and the special challenges our Koorie community confront.

Early in his career, Greg was Officer-in-Charge, of the Australian Legal Aid Office in Alice Springs. As a magistrate Greg later presided over the Victorian Children's Court, and was closely involved in developing a radical new approach to cases involving indigenous offenders. In 2011 Greg received a Churchill Fellowship to study Family Drug Treatment Courts in the USA and England; his findings helped shape the Family Drug Treatment Court, which the Victorian government established in 2014 as the first in Australia.
