Narratives beyond male and female

- Lunch with Jacob Thomas

Hosted by:

October 24, 2016 @ 11:30 pm - October 25, 2016 @ 1:00 am

Gender discussion usually reverts to a discourse of male and female. But what about people who don’t identify with these gender identities, or whose experience is atypical? This members'  lunch will shed light on how non-binary people experience the world in the daily practice of expression and navigating a deeply gendered environment.

In 2016 Jacob Thomas, a 26 year-old gender-queer Melburnian, was one of two Australians to receive The Queen’s Young Leaders award for service to suicide prevention and creating accessible pathways for LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual/Aromantic, and beyond) people.

Jacob has worked and volunteered in aid and development, LGBTQIA+ advocacy, gender equality, start-up consultancy, higher education, human rights, youth development, and international policy. Jacob is a guest lecturer in universities, a founding member of the Commonwealth Youth Gender and Equality Network (CYGEN), and sits on the UN Women’s Special Envoy for Youth and Gender.

This will be a fascinating and challenging lunch! Book early!
