Threats to our Civil Society. Can we regain civility and respect?
Members Lunch with Archbishop Philip Freier
Hosted by:
Felicity Costigan
May 17, 2022 @ 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm
$80.00 – $95.00The Most Reverend Dr Philip Freier will be our guest conversation leader asking “Can we regain civility and respect in our society”?
The lengthy lockdowns have lead to increasing anxiety in the community and sharply diverging views as to the government’s handling of the crisis. As we came out of lockdown there has been further anxiety caused by the situation in Ukraine. A result is that our society has become both anxious and polarised. This trend has been heightened by the increasing use of social media in which views are expressed with sharpness.
Following an election in which a further polarisation and personal attacks have been common, the test is whether our society can regain the civility and respect which has been a previous hallmark.
