The Hon. Mark Birrell will draw on his experience of funding and organising large infrastructure projects to discuss the infrastructure gap in Australia and options for improving the delivery and operation of nationally-significant infrastructure.
Mark is the Chairman of Infrastructure Australia and is a non-executive director with significant public policy and strategic experience.
Mark is the Chairman of the Port of Melbourne corporation, Regis Health Care Limited and Citywide Pty Ltd. He recently retired as chair of the peak industry organisation, Infrastructure Partnerships Australia. Roles he has held include being national leader of the infrastructure group at Minter Ellison Lawyers, Deputy Chairman of Australia Post and Chairman of the engineering company Evans & Peck Limited.
He was previously the Minister for Major Projects and Minister for Industry, Science & Technology in Victoria, playing a leading role in landmark projects like CityLink, the Docklands development, new Melbourne Exhibition Centre, Regent Theatre restoration and the F1 Grand Prix. He holds degrees in Law and Economics and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors
