Free – $20The continuing debate and aspiration to reach zero carbon emissions is an urgent and international one that has seen many countries declare that they will be carbon neutral by 2050. Declarations of intent are a favourite outcome of intergovernmental meetings and international meetings more generally, but the challenges are rarely addressed or explained. Nevertheless to deliver on intentions requires a methodical approach that takes account of the challenges and seeks to find ways to overcome them.
That is precisely what Dr Alan Finkel AO has done in his Quarterly Essay, Towards Zero. The essay does not shy away from the challenges but provides practical and evidence-based solutions.
We are delighted to have Dr Finkel join us over Zoom to explore the ideas in his essay and to challenge us to a robust thoughts and opinions on the options available and the different roles of government and industry to get to zero.
As members will know, Dr Finkel is the recently retired Australian Chief Scientist. He continues to serve as Special Adviser to the Australian Government on Low Emissions Technologies, and Chairs Australia’s Low Emissions Technology Investment Advisory Council.
