Improving Female Participation and the Economy

Dinner with Dr Angela Jackson

Hosted by:
Dr Peter Brain

March 1, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

$85.00 – $95.00

Female participation boosts economic growth, but Australia’s participation rate remains well below comparable countries.

“Halving the employment gap between men and women would add 500,000 full-time skilled workers with post school qualifications.”  -A report for Chief Executive Women

The financial and non-financial barriers to female participation can be influenced by government policy in a range of areas.

So, what can the government do to make a difference, support greater equity in the workforce and build a strong economy for Australia?

Dr Angela Jackson is perfectly positioned to make sense of these and other impacts on the economy and guide us in how government and business may address them.

Angela is the lead economist at Impact Economics, with expertise in labour markets, disability, health, gender, housing, tax, fiscal and social policy.

Angela has worked at the highest levels of Government. As an economist in Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet and as Deputy Chief of Staff for Finance Minister Lindsay Tanner during the Global Financial Crisis.

She holds a Masters in International Health Policy (Health Economics) with Distinction from the London School of Economics and Political Science, a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from the University of Melbourne and a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Tasmania. In 2021, Angela was awarded her PhD on the Economics of Disability in Australia from Monash University.

Angela is a part-time Commissioner at the Commonwealth Grants Commission, Chair of the Victorian National Heart Foundation Advisory Board, a member of the GenVic Board and National Deputy Chair of the Women in Economics Network.

Angela is also a sought after media commentator on radio, television and a contributor to The Age, The Conversation, The Australian, The New Daily and Croakey
