AI and ESG – what are the synergies?

MF Interest Group: Sustainability Leadership

Hosted by:
Michelle Beveridge
Dianne Jacobs

August 15, 2022 @ 7:15 pm - 8:30 pm

Free

Artificial Intelligence is high on the corporate agenda. The topic is broad and complex. There is also a significant opportunity to extend this agenda to address the strategic considerations for environment, social and governance (ESG) practices.

Conversations in boardrooms and c-suites naturally include technology, both in terms of competitive advantage and commitments. As the implications of ESG heighten, the issue to be embraced is how technology will be used to achieve the sustainability mandate and deliver long-term outcomes. But there are energy consumption and social impact concerns with AI, algorithms, and the processing of large amounts of data. These discussions will become specific, strategic and frequent.

Among the questions this interest group will explore are:

> Does artificial intelligence have a role in ESG strategies?

> What are the opportunities and responsibilities?

> Will AI as a technology enable and accelerate change?

> What are the implications for an organisation’s stakeholders on AI driven ESG?

> What is happening at a global level – UN Science Policy Business Forum?

Guiding this prescient and important interest group discussion is Melbourne Forum member, Michelle Beveridge who is a non-executive director on Cbus Super, Cbus Property, Leukaemia Foundation and Melbourne Forum. She is a chair or member of several audit and risk committees and had an extensive executive career in business transformation through technology.

Come with an open mind and definitely be prepared for a stimulating and challenging discussion as part of Melbourne Forum’s Sustainability Leadership interest group.

This Melbourne Forum Sustainability Leadership Interest Group will bring together those interested in sharing perspectives and exploring key issues with fellow members about sustainability and ESG (environmental, social, and governance). The intimacy of the experience is enhanced when everyone who attends gets to comment and exchange ideas. The hosts are members whose role is to gently guide the group’s conversation.
