Racing to the Electric Age

Drinks with Alan Finkel AC

Hosted by:
Justin Bokor

June 7, 2023 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

$45 – $50

The shift to a zero-emissions energy system is the most difficult, planned change to our economy since the start of agriculture.  It is completely unnatural, driven by the externality of climate change rather than immediate convenience.  All the ducks need to be lined up in a row: efficient regulatory systems, ethical mining, government incentives, international finances, transmission lines, shipping sunshine, long term storage, critical minerals, diversity of supply.

Former chief scientist Alan Finkel AC shares his considered insights and expertise in making the case for Australia leading the way in the global transition to clean energy.

If governments, investors, industry and consumers get this right over the next three decades, history will judge us as the generation who ushered in the Electric Age and helped to save the planet. The world will be transformed – with Australia, if we seize the opportunity, as a global leader.

Prof Alan Finkel AC FAA FTS is a neuroscientist, inventor, researcher, entrepreneur, educator, policy advisor, and philanthropist. He was Australia’s Chief Scientist from 2016 to 2020. Prior to his appointment, his career included Chancellor of Monash University, President of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ATSE), and CEO and founder of Axon Instruments, and CTO for the electric car start-up Better Place Australia.

Among his current roles, Prof Finkel is Special Adviser to the Australian Government on Low Emissions Technologies, Chair of Australia’s Low Emissions Technology Investment Advisory Council, and Chair of Stile Education.

Join us in this compelling conversation that will explore Australia’s clean energy future.
