Visit a very special place in the heart of Richmond – a transitional school and boarding program for indigenous students from remote Top End and regional Victorian communities.

MELBOURNE INDIGENOUS TRANSITION SCHOOL

Through our Open Door series, we have the opportunity to visit another special place of which Melbourne can be truly proud.

Melbourne Indigenous Transition School (MITS) offers young Indigenous people a years 7 and 8 school and boarding program, which enables them to confidently step into Melbourne schools while remaining culturally strong and connected with their families. The highly differentiated learning program offered here celebrates Indigenous cultures and enables students to grow academically, socially and emotionally as they pursue their schooling in Melbourne. At the end of year 8 most students continue to live in a MITS Alumni Boarding House when they go on to attend partner schools for Years 9-12.

CEO Ed Tudor will show us around and explain the School’s origins and evolution – and the keys to its success. This is a remarkable story.

Anyone with time to stay on can join in a casual lunch (at own cost) at a Swan St café.

Members, potential members and guests are welcome.
