$40.00 – $45.00The 2020 Melbourne Forum program will be officially launched at a special evening of drinks and canapés at the Ian Potter Southbank Centre with award-winning architect John Wardle.
Officially opened on 1 June 2019, the $109 million Ian Potter Southbank Centre is home to the University of Melbourne’s Conservatorium of Music — Australia’s oldest and most prestigious music institution.
The architecturally stunning and cutting-edge nine-storey building is the jewel in the crown of the university’s $200 million Southbank campus redevelopment.
John Wardle will speak about the intricacies of designing the Ian Potter Southbank Centre for the more than 1000 students and staff that utilise the facility.
Boasting world-leading acoustic spaces, the conservatorium features a 400-seat cantilevered auditorium, a 180-seat ground floor studio, multiple spaces for teaching, performing, recording and research, as well as informal study and meeting spaces. The centre also lays claim to one of world’s largest oculus windows — six-metres in diameter.
As part of the evening, Melbourne Forum members and guests will be treated to a private piano performance in the Hanson Dyer Hall followed by the opportunity to explore the conservatorium in its entirety.
This event will offer a fascinating insight into spectacular architecture that is designed to inspire musical creativity. It also provides the perfect opportunity to introduce a guest to Melbourne Forum and our exciting year ahead
